Calendar Browsing with LifeLines
LifeLine
Most People (excluding
some physicists) perceive time as proceeding in only one direction―forward.
What
we remember about our past can influence our future.
Now
& Then
helps us look back in time.
It provides a path, with signposts, on which to travel back in time, and
to re construct
and review the details of our lives.
LifeLine, is a calendar tool that represents your journal information as time
series charts, chronological paths, and "life" lines.
A LifeLine is really a snapshot of part of your life lined out using
points, arcs, and blocks of time.
A LifeLine provides the perspective of time from which to view aspects of your
life: jobs, relationships, homes, travel, activities, affiliations―anything by
which you remember and measure your life. You select your LifeLine criteria: category,
phrase, date range, anniversaries, or, perhaps, a philosophical focus. You decide the date range, time
scale,
subject
matter, and the LifeLine format that will best represent your focus.
LifeLines
readily accommodate editing and personalization. You can annotate a LifeLine (e.g.
emphasize milestones and pivotal or life changing events), move information around
a LifeLine, and add, or change links, connections, and associations. If you wish,
you can enhance your LifeLine results by using combinations of LifeLine,
narrative, pictorial, and graphical representations. LifeLines can link
to journal information related by topic or chronology. Any LifeLine can be saved in a static
form as an image, or with its search and presentation criteria, as a template for future
use.
LifeLine time-based retrospectives are extraordinarily powerful. Some aspects of your life
when viewed along a LifeLine, remind you of the slow and steady march of
time. Other aspects, represented chronologically, may seem to prove that "time
flies".
Your
life examined using LifeLines can provide you with new perspectives, reveal
patterns, and show where you re-fought (again and again) the same, but forgotten,
battles. LifeLines are great for comparing and
contrasting how your focus, and activities differ among multiple periods of your life.
LifeLines provide a powerful tool for reminiscing and reflection. Visually seeing your past in
a time context can make clear and obvious even the most obscure cycles, connections, and patterns―a veil is removed and you understand your life in new and meaningful ways.
