Domain aware
Much of Now & Then's ability to understand context, and to resolve ambiguity is derived from its focus on the limited domain of your world and the limited vocabulary with which you describe it. The built-in search and knowledge mining techniques focus only on the limited and increasingly well understood, domain of knowledge that is your worldview.

Worldview initialization survey
As with the language initialization process, you initialize your worldview by completing an exercise that maps some basic information about your life. You are prompted through a survey about your world with questions such as, "Where do you: live, work, go to school, to church, shop, travel? "Who is in your family? Who are your friends? Your work associates? What are your interests? Describe your health. What medicines do you take? Who do you frequently communicate with? How are they associated with you?

Machine learning and adaptation
Using information provided in the initialization, Now & Then employs knowledge agents that continuously discover and manage new information about all named people, places, objects, and concepts.  It learns about their associations, relationships, and situational importance. A user-managed domain map, your feedback, and rules constructed by you are used to correct wrong information including misconceptions and distortions.

Calendar aware
With its own initialization and use, Now & Then's Intelligent  Calendar acquires knowledge about how you perceive and work with time and dates. It learns what dates and time periods are special and important to you. It also learns about how you think of time, how you "chunk" time, and how you use days and time ranges to mark, review, and measure your life.

It views and learns about your life through a lens of dates and time series including anniversary & special days, dates, time between dates, recurring dates, same day each year, day-of-the-week, seasons, after work, nighttime, weekends, holidays, and vacations.

Of course, the Intelligent  Calendar provides a chronological record of the your memoirs and you can use the calendar to search and review your journal information. Beyond searches by dates or ranges, the Intelligent  Calendar learns how the calendar impacts your current interests, thoughts, activities, and philosophies.
