Topics, Categories, Tags & Links
By classifying information
according to how you think of it, Categories and Topics can provide logical
structure to your journal information. You can use Categories and Topics to
directly query, search, and browse your journal information. In
the background,
Now
& Then
uses your Topic and
Category lists to associate,
contrast, classify, and group your journal's content.

You build your list of
Categories from concepts and aspects of your life that have broad meaning and that
will persist and endure over time. Topics, on the other hand, are
often ad hoc and created on the fly to designate information that has captured
your current interest and attention. For example, you might assign the "more"
focused Topics of "senior prom" , "emergency dancing lessons", or "my two dates
to the senior prom" to the Category, "High School".
A
Topic might be a current project, exercise program, travel plans, or a personal
philosophy. You may assign journal information to multiple Categories and
Topics. You also decide what to include in your personal Category and Topic
lists.
Now
& Then
can:
- "Ask" if you want to assign entries to a Topic, Category, or Collection,
- automatically assign a passage or entire entry, or
- "suggest" an assignment.
Collections
You can also use Collections to group and classify information. Examples of Collections include:
| Epiphanies & Insights |
Books Read |
| Quotations & Sayings |
Favorite authors (directors, actors, etc) |
| Movies recorded / watched |
Your Restaurant Ratings |
As you browse and query your
journal, Categories, Topics, and Collections enable you to better focus on
information that is contextually relevant to your current interest.
