Because it is full-function "intelligent" journal optimized for handwriting, Now & Then enables you to record, and later search through a lifetime of free-form, structured, and logged information. You can record and keep as much information as you wish. Importantly, Now & Then guides you through a multitude of ways to enter, organize, and later find precisely  the information you seek. You can set up forms and prompts as reminders or " triggers" for entry of information about your current interests, or to monitor and track specific aspects of your health, exercise, career, or other events.

Now & Then should not be confused with a Day-Timer, used to schedule future appointments and keep phone numbers. The "past" rather than the "future" is Now & Then's focus. Although you can use Now & Then to track appointments, To Do's, and your goals, it is optimized to record and track personal experiences, thoughts, motivation, and past accomplishments. In doing so, it uses rules, Bayesian statistics and knowledge-based search techniques―exceeding, by orders of magnitude, the capabilities found in keyword-based appointment programs.

Now & Then's rule and knowledge-based information indexing and retrieval capabilities enable you to accurately find and display personal information and display it in meaningful and cleaver formats. Journal entries may be assigned to topics, categories, collections, relationships, and placed in time series. Assignments are made in three ways: by you, the user, automatically (according to user defined rules), and organized by Now & Then, based on its  understanding of the your domain (your words, knowledge, and facts = your World View).

By monitoring each entry and query Now & Then increases its understanding of you, its user. It builds multi-dimensional information relationship maps, phrase co-occurrence models, and time and date relationship models that reveal the associations, relationships, and groupings "hidden" in your journal information. Now & Then uses its understanding of your journal's facts and knowledge (domain), your use of terms and language (semantics), and your preferences & use patterns to analyze and identify all possible natural and forced information relationships.

Key to Now & Then's power is its ability to organize and display your journal memoirs in ways that emphasize meaningful information, facilitate comprehension, and amplify discovery, serendipity, and intuition. Your journal information is represented in Virtual Views that are derived from, but may be very different from the way you originally or "natively" recorded your journal information.

Now & Then can automatically retrieve, re-assemble, aggregate, and organize for presentation, your narrative, photos, audio, and tagged information. Retrieved information is formatted automatically into a presentation that best satisfies or answers your journal Query―a presentation that creatively combines sequential and concept narrative, time series, charts, hierarchies, tables, links, and graphics.

Over time by tracking your preferences, use patterns, and your feedback, Now & Then refines and improves how it represents Query and Search results.
